Cakes and Confections has a new location! I was privileged to attend the grand opening in Severna Park today alongside many other happy customers. I must have had two of each item from the free sample table- holiday sugar cookies, bite-sized key lime pies, white cake with raspberry filling and more, with four cups of their gourmet coffee. I also ordered and savored the most delicious breakfast sandwich of my 28 years on this earth- sausage, egg and cheese on a flaky croissant. The croissant was better than I'd had in France, and the sandwich melted in my mouth; I wish I hadn't been too shy to order another for "later." The owners are a genial family of four who likely woke at dawn to churn butter and gather the most promising eggs from chickens they've coddled from birth. I couldn't resist grabbing a bacon-cheddar scone on my way out. I also couldn't resist eating it immediately upon arriving home. The thing was ridiculous- a revelation. They even have lunch and dinner sandwiches, soup and the like. I can't wait to try the shrimp salad that my dad raves about. Alas, a tragic twist- I live in California and am currently visiting my parents in Maryland. They can thank Cakes and Confections, which has me already planning my next trip. Run, don't walk, but do pass Go and collect the 200 dollars, since you'll want to spend the lot of it here.

I was behind schedule ordering a cake for my boyfriend's birthday party with basic decorating. After calling a few bakeries I'm used to ordering from, and hearing "no, no, no," I found this bakery here on Yelp. Michael answered the phone and said "yes." He and his wife Julianne was able to come through in a pinch with a fantastic Almond Amaretto cake. They were professional, made tasty cakes and reasonably priced. This was a fantastic find. I'll keep them in my phone list for future business definitely!!!

This is a neat little place in a neat little nook. I stopped in to get a sandwich for lunch and I was happily surprised with a roasted chicken on wheat with cheese, tomatos and lettuce. The mayo also had a litlte garlic in it and made it just delicious and just like home really. I also have the pleasure of having one of those sodas in a bottle... it was a birch soda... yummy. With the soda, cookie and chips, it was a combo and I would go back for some more next time. I want to try the cakes still but I am here to tell you they do LUNCH and it was wonderful. There is unfortunately no where to sit but, you get it to go. I will be back for the desserts next time!

The similarities to Mom's Apple Pie in Leesburg are pretty startling. Middle of nowhere... On an extremely acute angle intersection of the road... Offers a bevy of pastry items that is similar, but more variegated, in the sense that Cakes and Confections sells breakfast items and croissanwiches in addition to cookies, cupcakes, and pies. ... and I guess the similarities end there. Cute guy manning the counter? Nope. Enormously delicious cookies? Ehhhh. My chocolate chip cookie, while it had decent sugary-ness, lacked any crunch on the edges. Plus, one had 75% of the chocolate chips all in a single quandrant of cookie. Perhaps a -little- stirring of batter would have dispersed them more evenly for chocolatey enjoyment in every bite. Pricing on each cookie was $1.50. I think I'd rather pay the $0.99 for a POCCC, instead. On the upside, it -is- a supercute local joint that sells custom cake creations and random foodie items like Route 11 chips and Boylan's bevvies. Worth a visit. But perhaps just once.

Had a pastrami sandwich, the crab potato chips, and the cherry cheese cake. My sandwich was pretty thick - lots of meat, tasted great. I loved the little cheese cake. It was Delicious. I flipped through the custom cake book. They had some really cool designs. I'll be back to get more bakery items. There was a table outside if you wanted to stay and eat.

We bought 2 of the chocolate dipped macaroons on our way out of Cantler's riverside for steamed crabs and didn't eat them till much later after dinner. WOW! We love macaroons and these were THE best we have ever had! So much coconut, not too sweet but moist and chewy and excellent dark chocolate.......superb! Thanks so much fo the delicious piece of heaven! We are 4 hours away otherwise we would be back tomorrow!

A very acutely-angled intersection indeed! This just ensures you can't miss the large "Gourmet Bakery" sign as you're making that turn to go to Cantler's! I appreciated the actual baker who was manning the counter as well. He knew exactly what was in each item. While the vanilla buttercream frosting on my $2.00 cupcake was light and fluffy, the vanilla cake underneath was dry and screamed a little of boxed cake mix. I'm giving this 4 stars because they have a great selection and something, SOMETHING, here should hit the sweet spot. It's clear that this is a small business run with lots of love, as evidenced by the homemade cake displays nailed to the walls (they did look pretty good).

My husband and I found this place while exploring the area, and I am so glad we did if only for the chocolate marquise I had. Oh my...it was honestly the BEST dessert I have ever tasted! I highly recommend it. My husband had a strawberry filled pastry of some sort, which he really enjoyed. We both tried the cream cheese brownie but weren't terribly impressed with that. Definitely going back for a second round of chocolate marquise though.

There's a lot of potential here. I jumped on Yelp looking for a place along my route that was suitable to grab breakfast at 1030 in the morning, after night and morning fishing across the bridge. I was intrigued by a bakery and always jump on an oportunity to support small or local businesses. I called ahead and was greeted by a helpful lady who answered some questions and took my panini order. Upon arrival I saw a posted sign advertising bacon, egg, and cheese quiche and decided I had to try a piece. It was ok. Eating the crust reminded me of the huge shortening containers my mother had on the counter throughout my childhood and tasted accordingly. I didn't taste much more than egg, cheese, and the salty chewy consistency from the bacon. My pastrami panini was average overall. I have to say that I've never tried a pastrami panini before and wasn't too sure what to expect. I liked the spicy mustard and the fresh taste of the meat. However, I would have liked the meat to be hot and not warm. I also am not a fan of tomatoes on a panini and would have preferred a sliced bread that was buttered and toasted from the press, whose marks were not present and made me wonder if it had met my sandwich. I choose the toffee explosion cookie as my dessert and that was, a detonation of flavor. The peanut butter cookie sandwiched the chocolate butter cream and toffee bits and played neutral to their sweetness for a perfect balance. I did not think I would like the butter cream because I'm not a chocolate fan however it did not overwhelm me with that greasy taste of cheap buttercream I've come to expect. Instead it was light and with enough chocolate richness that I'm still eating on it a day later. ( Paying some respect to my diet lol ) I also salivated over the pastries on display yesterday morning and vowed to come back and try most of them. There was a Marquise delicacy that might convert me to a chocolate fan, momentarily. This little piece of art has chocolate ganache draped over devil's food cake like a calm sea at sunset, whilst the heaping dollop of chocolate butter cream encompassed the resurging slivers of chocolate resting on top. The gentleman who was kind enough to answer my questions and assist my curiosity made me feel like my business was valued and was extremely knowledgeable about these potentially addicting delicacies. I WILL RETURN

3.5 stars but I rounded up to 4. Highlights: Pecan sticky bun-warmed in the microwave for 30 sec. It's the perfect size for a decedent treat. Peanut butter cookie-a ok. Nothing special about it but still good. Cinnamon crispies- good. This seems to be their unique offering. It's their French bread sliced thin, covered in butter and cinnamon sugar and baked. They were good but not worth the calories to me. Everything was good but nothing that sets them apart from other bakeries (which are everywhere these days). A nice treat.

We used this bakery for our wedding, they were very laid back, reasonably priced and created a great looking half camo/half traditional very fun different cake!! The only reason I don't give them five stars is because during our first meeting, I would've liked to been able to taste all of their offerrings before deciding on ones just off a piece of paper. Otherwise, everything was great!

Adorable. I was introduced to Cakes & Confections by another local, small business. If you're meeting for coffee, support your neighborhood businesses. The staff was friendly, the coffee was good, and the lunch was a good value.

I am thrilled that their new location is so much closer to me! Over the years, Cakes and Confections has made cakes for my wedding, birthday, baby showers, kid's birthdays and every wedding anniversary. Julianne is delightful to work with and the prices are unbeatable. Their sandwiches are really good too. I wouldn't even consider another bakery.

Purchased an amazon local deal for this place. We normally don't eat this far away from home, but for half off I figured "why not?" It is a quaint little eating area with roughly 8 to 10 sets of tables and chairs. Not big by any standards, but then again it is mainly a bakery. You order pastries and desserts at the front counter and subs/paninis in the back. Everything is paid for at the front counter, which was a little awkward feeling because you were first served food and then paid later. More of a normal restaurant setup than you would expect for this type of establishment. In total we ordered the grilled cheese, roast beef sub, and steak and cheese sub. I made the mistake of thinking the steak and cheese would be a philly cheesesteak type sandwich. Huge mistake! It had nice chunks of steak with delicious cheese throughout. And because it is a bakery, all of the bread was absolutely amazing. The roast beef sub looked amazing (my wife scarfed it down before I could even ask for a bite) and the grilled cheese sandwich was far better than your run of the mill grilled cheese. We heavily debated trying a pastry but somehow managed not to give into temptation despite how great they looked and smelled. This is an extremely friendly place that is clearly customer oriented. There were people who stopped by to see the new place and visit with the owners. This is very rare around these parts. You can tell the owners enjoy what they do and want to make sure their customers are well taken care of. Great place that I look forward to visiting again.

There just aren't enough stars to express to you how truly amazing this bakery is! Found it quite by accident searching for Cantler's Seafood, so out of the way you would never expect to find such a gem in the middle of nowhere! Bar none the most amazing dessert I have ever had, the Chocolate Decadence cake is worth any drive! Key Lime Pie, Cheesecakes, Pecan Rolls and Cream cheese and Strawberry filled Croissants are all spectacular too. Tiramisu is nice but I like a bit more kick on the bottom if you know what I'm saying;) I drive an hour to get my fix! It's a must!

This place has been in business for 10 years, which is a small miracle in the restaurant/bakery business. When you taste the food, you'll understand why they're successful. It doesn't look like much from the outside but inside you'll find FANTASTIC sweets, breakfast and lunch items. The rosemary panini bread is fantastic. Try the macaroons, black and whites and mini cheesecakes. If your mom loved you, she'd bake like this. The service is always friendly and the owner/baker is a nice guy.

A wonderful little bakery in an out-of-the-way location that's worth the trip. Incredible chocolate decadence. Fantastic cakes. Terrific custom stuff, too. Everything's made and served with love.

Last week I found myself in quite a predicament. Just 30 hours before a milestone birthday of a loved one, I realized not only did I not have a cake, but I have never made the type of cake that was his favorite, German Chocolate. I sweat, kvetched, screamed, yelled and then took to Yelp. After calling approximately 15 bakeries in the DC, MD & VA area, all of who could not accommodate my request (a small round cake for 10 ppl, German chocolate, with "Happy 30th Birthday" written on it, available for pick up before 7pm the next day) I was about to give up hope. I opened up my cookbook, found a German Cake recipe and immediately thought "Oh heck NO." Then magically, the idea came to me to search the Yelp listings in Annapolis and I found "Cake and Confections". The lady that answered the phone was incredibly friendly, ensured me that the request would be easy and they could do a nice round that fed up to 14 in my price range. YAY! I was incredibly grateful when she said, "Tell me what time you will be here tomorrow and I'll have the cake ready!" Excellent, we are rockin and rollin now. The next day I arrived at my scheduled time and was pleasantly surprised to discover this incredibly cute bakery in what appeared to be the middle of a neighborhood. I walked in to the most amazing smells and visually appealing delights. The bakery is old fashioned, with a wide range of tasty treats from macaroons, individual key lime pies, Calypso lemonade, Route 66 chips (my favorite) and quite a variety of wonderful hot sauces for sell. The baker was quite a cheerful and funny gentlemen that assisted me with my transaction. The cake I ordered was ready and gorgeous! Did not look like a pre-made or rush job at all. I thanked the baker, then myself and my friend grabbed some lemonade, coffee and macaroons on the way out. One bite into the macaroon and I knew I hit the jackpot. It was absolutely the best macaroon I have every had. Now for the final test... The party began at 8pm and we served the cake around 10:30. It was a winner! Everyone loved it and all the women left the party with the name of the bakery, and an extra slice of cake. Most importantly, the birthday boy was incredibly happy! Thankfully I do not live in the neighborhood of this bakery otherwise I'd surely be obese. However I am certainly coming back whenever I get a sugar craving, or just happen to be hanging out in Annapolis.

Ordered a wedding cake here and also the free first year anniversary cake. The almond with almond buttercream is worth a detour.

By the looks of it, I did not try. There is nothing to be desire. My curiosity ends in the middle of the road. We made a U-turn pronto after going inside. Small wonder, but I think it is terrible.

I am so happy to have found Cakes and Confections! My best friend's bridal shower was coming up, and I needed to find a cake from far away! I had some ideas of what I wanted, but no real plan. I called Cakes and Confections and they helped me figure everything out, took my order and payment over the phone, and made everything SUPER easy! The cake looked amazing and I heard nothing but compliments!! I would recommend for any occasion!
